Green Main-Kinzig celebrate Political Ash Wednesday: Omid Nouripour calls for democracy

On 14 February 2024, the Greens invited Main-Kinzig to Schöneck in Das Kilian for their political Ash Wednesday. Highlights of the evening were the rousing speech by Omid Nouripour, Federal Chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and Frankfurt Member of the Bundestag, and the lively report by Wolfgang Seifried, Green mayor candidate in Schöneck, from his election campaign.

On the occasion of the upcoming mayoral election, the Green Main-Kinzig met for their traditional green sauce meal in Schöneck. The green candidate Wolfgang Seifried reported on his election campaign and spoke about his visions for a sustainable and livable community. In doing so, he focuses primarily on the following topics: Digitalisation, climate and cutting red tape. In a subsequent lively Q&A session, it was also about the planned establishment of a data center in Killian cities.

After stops in Landshut and Rodgau, Omid Nouripour stopped at the Political Ash Wednesday in the Main-Kinzig district. In his speech, Nouripour addressed the current mood in the country. "Hate, hate speech and racism are not politics," he said in light of the recently published Correctiv research. He called for an active commitment to an open and pluralistic society and to counter any form of extremism. “Parties can contribute to this, but the question of resistance is a question of the majority society,” Nouripour explained.

We also need enough people to vote. The re-election in Berlin in particular clearly showed the impact that low turnout could have. Several Berlin deputies have had to hand over their Bundestag mandate in the course of this.

Before Nouripour went on to Hattersheim, he finally gave an outlook on this year's European elections. He stressed the importance of the European Union, especially in these crisis-ridden times: “The European Union is a machine of balance and compromise. We need to defend it, because it is the most important tool to preserve peace in the EU.”

“We are delighted that Omid Nouripour and Wolfgang Seifried took the time to celebrate a great political Ash Wednesday with us. Wolfgang Seifried we keep our fingers crossed for the mayoral election. We would like to thank all our guests and look forward to further exciting events in the future", says Anja Zeller, spokeswoman for the Green Main-Kinzig.
