When is the first bicycle road in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis?

If you want to promote cycling, you have to privilege it from time to time. No outcry is needed at this point. Cycling has been treated stepmotherly since reconstruction in the post-war period. The infrastructure has often discriminated against cyclists (and pedestrians). This status quo must now be adapted in order to achieve equality for all road users and thus promote active mobility. And don't worry, cars can still be allowed on bicycle roads. However, ferries have priority, can be driven side by side, and the maximum speed for all is 30 km/h.

The Main-Kinzig district has 29 municipalities. When is the first bicycle road in the Main-Kinzig-Kreis?

For many years you can look enviously at Offenbach, where some bicycle roads in the city center have been decorated in a design appealing way. Unfortunately, no more space has been created for safe cycling, parking cars are dangerously close to the road mouths on both sides. Bicycle roads can also be eye-wiping or, if badly done, remain far below their possibilities.

In the district of Offenbach-Land, bicycle routes have been established in recent years from Dreieich to Seligenstadt, in Langen, Egelsbach, Neu-Isenburg and Rodgau. In the Main-Kinzig district not even in the would-be city of Hanau, despite some requests from the Greens.

It is incomprehensible why the Main-Kinzig-Kreis is one of the last lights in Hesse with exactly zero bicycle roads.

The FGSV (Research Society for Road and Transport), which issues regulations and recommendations on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, recommends that pedestrian and bicycle traffic be given priority. Since 1997, the Road Traffic Regulations have allowed municipalities to set up bicycle roads.
