Realisation of the rapid cycle path between Hanau, Maintal and Frankfurt is approaching
Alliance 90 /The Greens Hanau and Main-Kinzig welcome the support of the state of Hesse for the concrete planning of the FRM7 cycle route. With the support, the expansion of the cycling infrastructure in Hanau towards Maintal and Frankfurt is progressing consistently.
The new section in the Kesselstadt district is an important step towards an efficient and everyday bike connection, which should make it easier for commuters to travel to the workplace in a sustainable and health-promoting way.
Background:
As it became known this week, the state of Hesse is supporting the Frankfurt RheinMain Regional Association with 730,400 euros in the planning of a section of the FRM7 Hanau-Maintal-Frankfurt high-speed cycle route. This was announced by Minister of Economic Affairs and Transport Kaweh Mansoori in Wiesbaden. The total expenditure for the project amounts to approximately 913,000 euros.
The planning of a two-kilometre-long section in the Kesselstadt district of Hanau is supported. The new connection will run from the Frankfurter Landstraße/Kastanienallee junction in an easterly direction to Katharina-Belgica-Straße. In the course of this, a new foot and bike path bridge over the Kinzig is also being built.
In the future, the FRM7 rapid cycling connection will connect the cities of Frankfurt am Main, Maintal and Hanau on the north-mainland side for around 17 kilometres. Around 110,000 people currently live along the route. Around 9,600 students go to school in the area. Around 800 to 1,300 cycling sections of the future rapid cycling connection already use it every day. The FRM7 has a potential of over 2,000 cyclists per day.
The grant is granted in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Hesse for the promotion of local mobility. According to this, in addition to investment measures to strengthen walking and cycling, appropriate planning, concepts and public relations measures can also receive subsidies. Planning should start as soon as possible and be completed by the end of June 2026.
