"Can be satisfied in spite of everything"

The spokespersons of the Main-Kinzig district association of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN, Anja Zeller and Thomas Gassen explain the preliminary final result of the federal election in the Main-Kinzig district:

“With our results in constituencies 174 and 179, we have not achieved a result to cheer for, but we can still be satisfied. In particular, the results in Bad Orb and Jossgrund clearly show that the fight for the energy transition and the expansion of wind power are met with local support. The path taken is positive, even if we continue to face headwinds. We are particularly pleased that we were able to achieve the best result in the two constituencies 174 and 179 in Gelnhausen with over 14 percent. We will now analyse all election results in detail in the party committees.

We look with concern at the high proportion of votes of the AfD of the Main-Kinzig-Kreis. This development encourages us to continue to work for democratic coexistence, to stand firmly for cohesion, diversity and human rights and to further expand our presence on the ground.

Our special thanks go to our direct candidates Philip Schinkel (District 174) and Mahwish Iftikhar (District 179), who fought with great commitment and passion for a better future. Their commitment to children's and youth policy, social justice and rural areas was a strong signal for the people of the Main-Kinzig district.

A big thank you also to the more than 100 new members who joined us since the end of the traffic light coalition. Their commitment and enthusiasm have spurred our election campaign. It is impressive how many of them have been actively involved in the Mahwish and Philip campaign – this movement encourages the challenges ahead.

Even if the election is decided: The tasks remain. We will continue to fight with all our strength for climate protection, social justice and a democratic centre – here in the Main-Kinzig district and beyond.”
