With a comprehensive electoral programme geared towards the coming years, the Greens in the Main-Kinzig district will start the local election campaign in 2026. Under the motto ‘Going together’, they present a catalogue of measures addressing key areas of action such as climate protection, mobility, social infrastructure and regional economic development.
Climate protection as a cross-cutting task
"Climate change is not waiting - and neither are we," emphasised Mahwish Iftikhar, the lead candidate and leader of the Greens' Main-Kinzig political group. The aim is to develop the Main-Kinzig district into a pioneering region for renewable energies. The plans include an accelerated expansion of wind power and photovoltaic systems, a future climate-neutral district administration and the establishment of a competence centre to support municipalities and companies in their transition to renewable energies. "Climate protection strengthens our regional added value, creates jobs and increases our independence", adds Iftikhar.
Ensuring mobility for urban and rural areas
According to the Greens, a sustainable mobility concept must make reliable and affordable offers for all people in the circle. The expansion of the cycle path network, the reactivation of the Wächtersbach-Bad Orb railway line and the further development of demand-oriented mobility services such as ‘Carlos’ are key building blocks. The goal is sustainable, low-access mobility that takes individual and regional needs into account.
Strengthening social infrastructure
Affordable housing, high-quality childcare and secure healthcare are fundamental prerequisites for equal living conditions for the Greens. "We want everyone in the Main-Kinzig district to be able to live well, regardless of their income or place of residence," said Philip Schinkel, the top candidate and chair of the Green Group in Bad Orb. The circle must support the municipalities through reliable framework conditions, fair financing and stronger inter-municipal cooperation.
Promote regional economy and crafts
The Greens see considerable potential for regional development in the combination of innovation and craftsmanship. Funding programmes for sustainable companies, a targeted strengthening of the craft trades and the expansion of qualified skilled workers are planned. The planned Academy for Health and Care is intended to make a central contribution to attracting much-needed health professionals.
Strengthening democracy, recognising commitment
"Our democracy thrives on participation", emphasises Philip Schinkel. The Greens are in favour of easing the burden on associations and making youth participation mandatory in municipal decision-making processes. In addition, they support the lowering of the voting age to 16 years in municipal elections.
Protecting natural spaces and increasing climate resilience
With projects such as "MKK blüht", a strengthening of organic agriculture and the protection of waters and forest areas, the Greens want to ensure biodiversity in the district. In addition, sponge city concepts, modernised flood protection measures and regional heat action plans are to increase resilience to the consequences of climate change.
“We are presenting a programme that works”, summarises Mahwish Iftikhar. “With clearly defined objectives, verifiable measures and reliable structures, we want to develop the Main-Kinzig district into a region where all people can live well and safely – today and in the future.”
