The district executive and the district parliamentary group of the Greens welcome the citizens' decision in the Free Court
"We are pleased that the citizens of Freigericht have decided to further examine the wind priority areas," said Ahmet Cetiner, spokesman for the district board of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Main-Kinzig. "Last Sunday's citizens' vote is also a positive signal for democracy and the work of many committed citizens who, with arguments and a high level of personal commitment, have led to the success of the citizens' petition. Among other things, the Freigericht energy regulars' table and the local Greens have clearly shown what it is all about and with factual arguments some fears can be overcome", continues Cetiner.
Now the fact-based examination of the areas can continue and then, the Greens hope, the planning of plants can finally be started quickly. "The citizens' decision in Freigericht has shown that a majority of citizens have understood the importance of switching to renewable energies. Wind power is an indispensable part of consistently meeting energy needs," said Cetiner. If the construction of plants on the designated areas is possible after a detailed examination, this could also generate revenue for the municipal treasury. "We Greens hope that other municipalities in the Main-Kinzig district will follow suit in a timely manner with the examination and finally also the construction of plants for renewable energies and thus contribute to independence in the energy supply." There would also be opportunities in the Westkreis with the municipalities of Bruchköbel, Maintal and Nidderau.
The board of the district parliamentary group, Reiner Bousonville, Viola Haßdenteufel and Jakob Mähler, also regard the citizens’ decision as ‘an unequivocal vote for wind power in the Main-Kinzig district and a clear signal to the CDU in the Grand Coalition in the Main-Kinzig district’. This is because: "Despite the massive disinformation campaign, the necessary quorum could not be achieved among the opponents of wind power, quite in contrast to the supporters of the expansion." The vote in Freigericht must also be a clear sign of the district policy: “Only recently, our request to support the deployment of renewable energy was rejected by the Grand Coalition. We now expect a clear sign, also from Landrat Stolz, that they are moving away from their previous path. With this result behind us, we will continue to work for the expansion of renewable energies. Once again, it is clear that the most vocal voices are not the people in the majority", said Bousonville, Haßdenteufel and Mähler.
