Request Orange the world

Decision:

The Main-Kinzig district joins the UN’s ‘Orange the World’ campaign and reaffirms its solidarity with women experiencing violence. The Main-Kinzig-Forum will be illuminated in orange on 25 November from 5 p.m. It is necessary to check which other district-owned buildings can be illuminated.

The district committee instructs the unit for women's issues and equal opportunities to draw attention to offers of assistance for people affected by violence through a targeted information campaign on the district's media channels.

Explanatory memorandum:

The aim of the campaign is to raise social awareness of gender-based violence. November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day of commemoration and action is dedicated to combating discrimination and violence against women and girls. Since 1981, the color orange has been a symbol of a nonviolent future for women.

In strengthening women's rights, topics such as sexual abuse, rape, circumcision of women, domestic violence, femicides and much more will be highlighted on this day. About a third of all women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence since their 15th year of life. This must not be a taboo topic!

In the EU, about 50 women die from domestic violence each week. A 2018 study by the German government found that more than 114,000 women were victims of violence in Germany. Killing attempts took place every day and a dangerous bodily injury took place every hour.

The coronavirus pandemic in particular has exacerbated the situation and the violence has increased. The pandemic-related provisions of the home office and school closures are to be mentioned here. First progress can be reversed.

By illuminating the Main-Kinzig-Forum in orange color, the Main-Kinzig-Kreis stands in solidarity with all women affected by violence. This is because: Less than 40% Women around the world who are affected by violence are seeking help. The action "orange the world" is also intended to draw attention to the possible offers of aid, which are to be made known to the public through an information campaign.
