Angelika Gunkel and Monika Kühn-Bousonville elected to the district committee

Making Green Issues Strong

Angelika Gunkel and Monika Kühn-Bousonville now sit for the Greens in the district committee of the Main-Kinzig district. Both were elected at the recent county meeting.

With Angelika Gunkel, an already experienced person moves in: Gunkel was elected to the district council in 2011 and has been representing the Greens in the voluntary district committee since October 2017. “I have been involved with the Greens since 1981. Environmental degradation, forest extinction and a waste of natural resources energy policy have been crucial for my children and future generations. I stepped in to help preserve the livelihoods of us, our children and grandchildren, and future generations, and to conserve resources," Gunkel explains. Her calling has made her a profession. From 2007 to 2021, Gunkel was an employee of the city of Hanau, where he was primarily responsible for sustainability, climate protection and local mobility.

She has been involved in numerous citizens' initiatives and environmental groups, along with many others. "Great resistance and a lot of energy were needed to fight against the use of nuclear power and coal-fired power plants – and in Hanau there was plenty of opportunity to do so. For me, the maxim of action has always been to keep an eye on alternatives, to develop them and to stand up for them", says Gunkel.

Before her appointment, the Hanauerin was already able to look back on numerous municipal political offices. Almost 20 years and again since this parliamentary term Gunkel is also engaged as Hanau city councillor, was on the board of the Green Hanau and district board spokeswoman of the Green Main-Kinzig. "I am pleased to be able to continue working in the district committee and will continue to work for transparency, the SDGs and climate protection. With Monika Kühn-Bousonville, the green positions will be strengthened", concludes the volunteer district councillor.

Almost as long as Gunkel, Kühn-Bousonville is part of the Greens: “I started to get involved and follow the parliamentary path in 1983”. With her commitment, she has worked as a municipal representative in the Erlense Parliament for more than 10 years, many of them as a group leader.  From the very beginning, it has also worked in the fields of environmental protection, transport, sustainability and nature conservation.

“In 1994, I decided to bring my Green experiences, ideas and alternatives to the Main-Kinzig district council. At that time, I was already strongly committed to women and involved in the various women's committees. Reconciliation of work and family life and the promotion of women was one of my priorities back then – and of course still today.”

In addition to her political commitment, Kühn-Bousonville worked for the city of Hanau for 27 years, initially in the youth welfare office and subsequently as a women's representative of the city of Hanau.

If Kühn-Bousonville does not stand up for its Green Focus themes such as equal rights for women, reconciliation of family and work, expansion of childcare and combating child poverty, "I find peace and relaxation in gardening or in cultural offerings. I take every opportunity to cycle and hike in our region", concludes Kühn-Bousonville.
