Green Group elects MEPs to specialised committees

Legislative term with major challenges / “Intensive reflection on issues”

"Thanks to our strong election results, we can fill the specialist committees of the district council with two deputies each", says Reiner Bousonville, Viola Haßdenteufel and Jakob Mähler, member of the board of the Green parliamentary group in the district council: "Working in committees makes it possible to shed more light on various topics or to seek expert advice. This allows topics to be dealt with much more intensively and comprehensively in order to achieve the best possible result.”

There are many challenges ahead of MEPs in the current legislature: "Working in committees will be very important here, which is why we are pleased to be represented with twice as many Members as in the previous parliamentary term", said the Group Bureau.

In the main and finance committee, the group chairman Reiner Bousonville, at the same time financial policy spokesman, as well as the former district deputy Matthias Zach represent the Greens. “This is where our challenges lie, above all, in the coming financial burdens caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” said Bousonville. “But Hanau's circularity will also be an important issue in our work.”

"In the field of education, we need to be prepared for the future," said Jakob Mähler, vice-president and spokesperson for education policy: "The discussion on the school development plan in particular has shown that political leaders do not yet have a concept on how to deal with the challenges ahead," said Mähler, who sits together with Mahwish Iftikhar on the Committee on Education, Culture, Sport and Partnerships. “We will continue to work towards a sustainable school development plan.”

In the Committee on Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, the Environment and Agriculture, Celine Bousonville and Rainer Vogel represent the Greens: "Environment will be the key issue in the coming years," said Bousonville, environmental spokeswoman for the district parliamentary group: “It is important to implement important issues here, be it the eco-model region or the continuous and ever-expanding climate protection in the administration and in the district.”

"Especially in times of coronavirus, it has become clear how important good work in the social field is," says Viola Haßdenteufel, vice-president of the parliamentary group and spokeswoman for social policy in the Greens parliamentary group. Together with Mahwish Iftikhar, she wants to set important accents in the Committee on Social Affairs, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens and Demography: “These are areas that have been severely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Here we are faced with urgent questions that need to be answered.”
