On Saturday, 13 September 2025, the district association Main-Kinzig of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen drew up its list for the district elections in the course of the local elections on 15 March 2026. Mahwish Iftikhar from Nidderau and Philip Schinkel from Bad Orb were elected to the top of the list.
Mahwish Iftikhar, spokeswoman for diversity policy on the state board of the Greens in Hesse, who has been active in local politics for many years and chairwoman and managing director of the Greens' parliamentary group in the district council, has now also been elected as the top candidate. In her speech, she stressed: “I am concerned with a policy that takes everyone with it and clearly combines environmental responsibility with social justice.” She is particularly committed to work, democracy and the fight against social inequality.
Philip Schinkel, chairman of the parliamentary group in the town council of Bad Orb and member of the district board, completes the double leadership. In his introduction, he emphasized: ‘Climate protection, social justice and the strengthening of child and youth work directly affect the everyday life of the people in the Main-Kinzig district.’ He announced that he was particularly committed to improving the opportunities for children and young people to participate.
‘Our list shows: We start closed and with fresh vigor. Mahwish Iftikhar and Philip Schinkel stand for competence, experience and passion, and they will strengthen our green profile in the Kreistag with clear priorities and new ideas", said the spokeswoman of the Kreisverband, Anja Zeller.
The list for the district election includes 20 women and 20 men from around 20 municipalities in the Main-Kinzig district and presents a broad mix of committed personalities:
