Political Ash Wednesday of the Greens Main-Kinzig: Optimistic about the future

Monika Kühn-Bousonville is honored for 40 years of membership in Bündnis 90/Die Grünen

6 March 2025

At the traditional political Ash Wednesday of the Main-Kinzig district association of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, the Café Kowalski in Bad Orb not only enjoyed the green sauce, but also engagedly discussed current political challenges and opportunities.

The highlight of the evening was the speech of the Bundestag member Wolfgang Strengmann-Kuhn, who motivated the guests with a rousing address: "We live in crazy times, but I have hope – the colour of hope is green." He stressed the importance of a determined climate policy, especially in view of global developments, and called for Europe to be strengthened. “Don’t go slower now, go faster – and take everyone with you”.

In addition to the outlook on upcoming political challenges, a review of the Bundestag election campaign in 2025 was also given. Our direct candidates Philip Schinkel and Mahwish Iftikhar shared their experiences and reaffirmed their will to continue to stand up for green politics. "I think we've never had such a wonderful and motivating election campaign before," says Mahwsih Iftikhar. Philip Schinkel added: “We all hoped for something different – the federal trend is also affecting constituencies. The journey now continues towards local elections.”

“We are delighted that Wolfgang Strengmann-Kuhn took the time to celebrate a great political Ash Wednesday with us. And we would like to thank our direct candidates for their great election campaign", says spokeswoman for the Green Party Main-Kinzig, Anja Zeller. With a lot of optimism, the district association is now looking ahead – especially towards local elections.

Another special moment of the evening was the honouring of Monika Kühn-Bousonville for 40 years of membership in Bündnis 90/Die Grünen for her great commitment to the district council and local politics in Erlensee. As a laudator, Dieter Nentwig from Erlensee highlighted the many political and professional stations of Kühn-Bousonville.
