Green Main-Kinzig: The outcome of the European elections does not bode well for climate and environmental policy

The district board of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Main-Kinzig is disappointed with the outcome of the 2024 European elections. Despite a dedicated election campaign and intensive efforts, the Greens could not maintain the good result of five years ago. Congratulations go to Großkrotzenburg and Schöneck, where more than 14 percent were reached for the Greens. Worrying is the good performance of the AfD.

“We are deeply concerned about the strong influx of right-wing populist content,” says Anja Zeller, spokeswoman for the Green Main-Kinzig. "This result shows that we must continue to fight intensively against extremism, racism, exclusion and anti-democracy. The outcome of the European elections also represents a step backwards for climate and environmental policy."

The Green Circle emphasises the need to promote social cohesion. "The European Union is facing major challenges", says Thomas Gassen, spokesperson for the Green MKK. “We will continue to work for an open, solidarity-based and democratic society.”

Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Main-Kinzig call for the collective defence of basic democratic values. "We will step up our efforts to further engage citizens in a policy of sustainability, justice and humanity," Zeller concluded.
