In September, the Kreisverband Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Main-Kinzig welcomed its 400th anniversary. Members and also since then members are added every week.
"We are very pleased that so many people are interested in the topics of the Greens and are willing to engage politically," said Günther Koch, spokesman for the Board of the Greens Main-Kinzig.
The 400th. Member of the Green Party is Matthias Dorka from Brachttal. “I wanted to be involved in a party in my municipality of Brachttal but also beyond. With the Greens, I have found the greatest overlap with my interests and views, which has led me to join," said Dorka. Shortly after his accession, the new member was already active in the Bundestag election campaign, hung up posters and distributed flyers in his district Schlierbach. Now Dorka hopes to find even more comrades-in-arms in his home community and to revive the local association of the Greens.
"The district association likes to support motivated new members to get involved in their place," says Koch. "Especially in the more rural areas in the eastern Main-Kinzig district, we see great potential to bring in green issues even more." Among other things, the increasing membership numbers and good results in the recent elections in surrounding municipalities such as Wächtersbach, Biebergemünd and Bad Ob made it clear that there is interest and need for green municipal policy.
But also in the larger local associations in the western Main-Kinzig district such as Hanau, Maintal and Nidderau, the number of members continues to rise even after the federal election. “We are confident that we will soon have our 500. Members can celebrate", says Günther Koch. "In the district association and the local associations, we are now striving to involve the new members in the party work in the best possible way, in order to further advance issues such as social justice and climate protection at the municipal level and to be well positioned for future elections and election campaigns."
