After a three-year break, the Greens invited Main-Kinzig to the New Year's reception in the Brockenhaus Hanau for the first time on Friday, 19 January 2024. Almost a hundred guests from politics, associations and administration accepted the invitation.
Thomas Gassen, co-spokesperson of the Green Main-Kinzig, addressed in his welcome the troubled times in the ‘big and small’ that we are currently experiencing. "The farmers' protests, the right-wing extremist attack in Wächtersbach and Correctiv's research are unsettling people and a cause for concern," said Gassen. In view of this, he pleaded for a green policy that is approachable and creates trust through improved communication.
The super election year with the European elections and the state elections in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg heralded Anja Zeller, co-spokeswoman of the Green Main-Kinzig. This evening, donations were collected for the East German state associations to support them in their state election campaigns. "In addition, from the summer onwards, we will go to the neighbouring district associations to jointly promote green politics at the election stands," says Zeller.
As a guest speaker, Anna Cavazzini, a member of the European Parliament from Schlüchtern, voted in favour of the upcoming European elections. Europe is like democracy. Both are taken for granted by the majority society and yet it is more important than ever to stand up for both, Cavazzini appealed to the guests.
In addition to Cavazzini, her colleague in the European Parliament, Daniel Freund, also gave guests a look at the campaign for the European elections on 9 June 2024. "As democrats, we must stand together and strengthen each other's backs. We have an enormously important year ahead of us for democracy and together we will fight for a strong green outcome," Freund said.
"The upcoming election is of great importance for the future of Europe and we are pleased to welcome Anna Cavazzini and Daniel Freund, two such dedicated representatives, to our New Year's reception," said Anja Zeller.
Thomas Gassen summed up: “The Green Main-Kinzig New Year's reception was therefore not only a successful start to the new year, but also an important start to the upcoming European election campaign. The guests left the evening with renewed motivation and a firm commitment to actively working towards a green future in Europe”.
